GREETINGS TO THE IOS

Dear Colleagues,

while you will be having the 19th International Orthodontic Symposium of the EurAsian Association of Orthodontists (EAO) in Warsaw, I will have other obligations at the same time in Paris. So I will not be able to share the time with you in Warsaw. My colleague, Prof. Dr. Thomasz Gedrange will be my deputy chairman this time.

As the President of the Eurasian Association of Orthodontists it is my privilege to welcome you in Warsaw. When we come together there with the Polish Dental Association and Polish Orthodontic Society we can look back to a long story of success. For more than two decades, the International Orthodontic Symposia (IOS) have been held in Prague, usually always on the fi rst of advent, every year. Within this congress series, we have been able to invite the most renowned speakers worldwide to share their knowledge with an ever increasing number of participants – advanced, experienced practitioners and young residents.

„We shall unite colleagues in EurAsia without any geopolitical or cultural borders, sharing the knowledge and experience, and supporting each other in respect and appreciation“

This is the credo of the EurAsian Association of Orthodontists, which was founded in 2012 with Dr. Jan Raiman as the Vice President and mediator, and with DDr. Silvia M. Silli, Dr. Izabella Doniec-Zawidzka, and Prof. Dr. Asbjorn Hasund as founding board members, Prof. Dr. R.-R. Miethke as Honorary President, and with me as the president. I am proud that now we have about 40 colleagues as representatives in their home countries and an ever increasing number of members and followers in the media.

The Polish astronomer and physician, Nicolaus Copernicus, did say: “To know that we know what we know, and to know that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge.” In our professional fi eld, we should be aware of this wise assessment – and of course, we are always pushing forward the leading edge of our knowledge.

I wish you a very prosperous 19th International Orthodontic Symposium in Warsaw in June 2019. Ralf J. Radlanski President of the EurAsian Association of Orthodontists
